Richard Mille's RM 016 dates back to 2007 and what I find extraordinary about it is that it is fundamentally ahead of the industry. Probably for this reason, many collectors at the time were a little unsure of what to do. Until then, Richard's most iconic watches, such as the RM 001, RM 004 and RM 008, featured his stunning tonneau shape and were relatively chunky watches as they all included Mille's aggressive aesthetic and different forms of seismic testing, which will define the genetic blueprint of his brand in the future. But the 38mm wide and 49.8mm long curved rectangular case of the RM 016 is only 8.25mm thick, leaving collectors a little confused. After all, this is not the Mille watch they were expecting. But, for me, this is the first time Richard has radically improved the wearability of a watch by lowering the case height. The RM 67-02 is a combination of this concept with the RM 027 and RM 035's experimentation with ultra-lightness, shock resistance and material innovation. To demonstrate that his high complexity could also be the subject of ultra-thin experiments, Richard Mille introduced us to the RM 017 tourbillon in 2010.
